The Reddies River Project, long authorized and needed as a flood control project, has been recently re-evaluated. This re-evaluation brought into sharp focus the current economic picture of the area and a well justified project designed for optimum physical use of the selected site was formulated. Specific details in some cases are omitted or general in nature, since it was not the intent of the investigation to become any more involved than a normal survey report. Purposes added to the authorized and funded for AED project are a water quality control, b water supply, and C recreation. The text of the report reveals that the project has storage capabilities of 35,000 acre-feet for flood control, equivalent to 6.95 inches of flood water runoff 12,000 acre-feet for water quality control, equivalent to 34 of the needs for the Upper Yadkin River Basin 9,150 acre-feet for water supply which will provide a dependable yield of 31.6 mgd and 4,350 acre-feet for sediment deposition. The project will partially fill an immediate recreation need and ultimately will furnish 180,000 recreation days annually. The State of North Carolina has written letters of intent to participate in both development of recreation facilities and the water supply purposes of the project.
