Abstract:
Flight measurements have been made of individual aileron hinge moments, aileron rolling effectiveness, and stick-force characteristics in abrupt aileron rolls with P-40F airplane over indicated air speed range from 108 to 304 mph. Three methods for measuring rate of change of hinge moment with angle of attack were investigated. Flight results from two-dimensional wind-tunnel tests of wing-aileron profile as measured at center aileron hinge are compared with other data.
