Abstract:
Theory is developed for double and single shear joints and applies to loads below and beyond limit of proportionality. Assumed values for bolt stiffnesses are based on theory and experimental results and do not appreciably influence load distribution. Thus, order of magnitude is sufficient indication for design purposes. Theory is directly applicable to spot-welded structures and, with slight modifications, to seam-welded structures. Further experimental data are needed to check theory.
