The aim of this research has been to investigate techniques for the detection of deception in which the contribution of the human operator is the administration of questions and the interpretation of response records is reduced to a minimum and repeatable routine. As far as possible these techniques of administration were selected in such a way that the relevant measures of the responses of the persons being examined could be converted to unambiguous source and analyzed singly or in combination by available types of automatic equipment. When this is done it is possible to measure the success of detection of deception which is attributable to the techniques rather than to the unique skills of the particular operators who interpret the records.
