Correlation of Metallic Fuse/Tamper Chemical Reaction with Electrical Recovery

Recent experiments have been conducted at NRL which were designed to evaluate the chemical reactivity of exploding conductor fuses and to relate the chemical process to fuse electrical performance. In these experiments, metallic fuses including aluminum wire and foils, lithium-aluminum alloy wire, and copper wire were vaporized in distilled water. Additionally, less precise tests were conducted where copper and aluminum conductors were vaporized in both SF6 and C02 gases.
