Abstract:

This study uses a simple spreadsheet model to simulate a one-on-one engagement between two combat vehicles with the objective of comparing the performance of the High Energy Missile HEMi mounted on a Light Armoured Vehicle LAV3 with that of the LAV TOW Under Armour LAV TUA, the Mobile Gun System, and the 25 mm APFSDS on a LAV3. These BLUE systems were placed in conflict with a variety of RED threats, both guided and unguided. The results suggest that in long-range engagements or in engagements with a T-80U at any range, the LAV3 carrying the HEMi is the superior system. Both the MGS and the LAV3 with a 25 mm APFSDS are better suited to shorter-range engagements against a BMP2.
