The Air Force has a requirement to improve gate security, ensure personnel safety and reduce traffic congestion, while maintaining access control at Travis AFB. The action is needed to ensure the protection and security of Department of Defense DoD forces and assets against acts of terrorism ensure the safety of security forces and motorists improve the Base entry gate capacity and traffic flow and, improve the aesthetic quality of entry control facilities ECF on Travis AFB. To meet these requirements, the Air Force is proposing to implement structural and operational modifications at four ECFs on Travis AFB the Main Gate the Hospital Gate the North Gate and, the Forbes Gate. As an Alternative Action, the Air Force is considering expansion of the existing parking lot at the Visitor Center Main Gate. Under the No Action Alternative, no improvements to gate security or other force protection measures would be accomplished. Resources considered in the impact analysis are land use air quality noise biological resources cultural resources infrastructure and utilities environmental management hazardous materials and wastes and environmental justice. No significant impacts would result from implementation of the Proposed or Alternative Actions or the No Action Alternative.
