Abstract:
Modern Ballistic VulnerabilityLethality VL analysis as conducted by the US Army Research Laboratory ARL almost always relies on geometry that has been created by suppliers using Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline NURBS geometric primitives. This project explored the possibility of an automatic conversion process to convert these models to a more traditional constructive solid geometry format that would offer speed improvements in analysis runs. Initial development has resulted in successful conversion of simple models and partial simplification of more complex targets, as well as suggesting future development directions to achieve higher conversion success rates.
