Abstract:
The localization of an RF transmitter by a distributed set of RF receivers has important application to the Navy. We report the results of a transmitter localization experiment done at the Naval Research Laboratory. A distributed sensor network was implemented on GNU radio and field-tested. The network locates target emitters using differences in received powers between sensors. We discuss the localization algorithm and the likely sources of error associated with it. We review simulated and experimental results consistent with our interpretations of the error sources, and we suggest methods for dealing with these errors in future iterations of the sensor network.
