Abstract:
Distributed sensor networks often call for bursty, high data rate communications over long distances and fluctuating channels. A waveform for such a scenario would ideally be wideband to mitigate frequency selective fading, have data multiplexed into separate streams for high data rate, have long symbol times to mitigate multipath, and have a constant amplitude over time for non-linear amplification. These requirements are uniquely served by constant envelope OFDM. We describe the use-cases, theory, and successful implementation of such a waveform via the GNU radio framework on Ettus software-defined radios. We measure the bit error performance of the link as a function of channel quality and compare this performance to simulations of the link.
