Abstract:

The Department of State and DTRA jointly sponsored the present study, requesting that it explore the validation of open source data so as to withstand the rigor of verifying treating compliance for U.S. policy makers and for sharing with the international community. It will examine tools for automated validation of open source information and assess the potential utility of open source data for treaty verification, transparency, and confidence building. The open source information under consideration includes traditional reporting of public discourse as well as newer forms of open source information, such as public domain social media, data from public domain sensor systems, and data introduced into the public domain through mobile devices.
