Abstract:

The research on mitochondria has been the focus of many scientists since the discovery of mitochondria DNA mutation as a cause of many health diseases and its major role in apoptosis. Various work has been done to measure the membrane potential of mitochondria which can inform scientists of the health state of the cells. The objective of this study was to learn more about mitochondria s surface properties and to consequently immobilize mitochondria on graphene. The surface of graphene was coated with Polyethyleneimine PEI, Poly-L-Lysine PLL, Lipid bilayer, and Polyethylene glycol PEG to study the immobilization of mitochondria on graphene. The technique used to remove unattached mitochondria as well as the staining method were both crucial factors in adhesion of mitochondria to the surface of grapheme.
