A new approach to study similarity of the velocity profile of the 2-D wall-bound boundary layer flow is presented. The approach is based on a simple concept the area under a set of scaled velocity profile curves that show similarity behavior must be equal. By taking simple area integrals of the scaled velocity profile and its first derivative, we obtain a number of new results. For example, it is shown that if similarity exists, then 1 the similarity velocity and length scaling parameters are interdependent, 2 the displacement thickness must be a similar length scaling parameter, and 3 the velocity scaling parameter must be proportional to the value of the stream-wise velocity above the boundary layer edge.
