Abstract:

Columbus Air Force Base AFB proposes to clean and stabilize the ditches at the golf course and C Street. The ditches have collected sediment that has caused a shift in the currents resulting in the erosion of some areas of the banks. The sediment areas are supporting growth of weeds and grass that cannot be maintained. The erosion has also occurred at the culverts and bridge locations. If the erosion were allowed to continue the areas would become a safety hazard. The cleaning of ditches and stabilization of ditch banks also assessed one other alternative. Alternative 1 The no-action alternative. The no-action alternative was not selected because it would not keep sediment from accumulating nor would it keep the banks from eroding. The proposed action would require the disturbance of installation property, minimal decrease in storm water quality during the cleaning and a temporary increase in noise levels during construction. Storm water quality would improve following the cleaning and stabilization. Erosion and sediment controls would be installed and maintained prior to and during cleaning and stabilization. An environmental impact statement is not required. A Finding of No Significant Impact is justified.
