Abstract:
The purpose of and need for action is to improve the efficiency of the T-1 and T-37 elements of Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training conducted by Columbus AFB by using a nearby airport for instrument and visual approach and traffic pattern training instead of the more distant airports currently being used for this training. Under the Proposed Action 14 FTW T-1 and T-37 aircraft would conduct instrument and visual approach training, as well as takeoff, landing, and closed pattern training at the GTRA, Columbus, Mississippi. No Air Force personnel would be based at GTRA. No aircraft maintenance activities would be anticipated to occur at GTRA other than the rare occasion when a T-1 or T-37 aircraft might land at the airport due to an emergency that would require maintenance before being capable of a subsequent flight. This EA evaluates the Proposed Action and the No Action Alternative. Under the No Action Alternative, the 14 FTW would not conduct T- l and T-37 training at the GTRA. Resources considered in the impact analysis were mission airspace and airfield operations noise land use and environmental justice.
