Orthotropic plasticity and failure were added to the existing orthotropic elasticity model in EPIC for the purpose of modeling impact loading of composites. Plasticity is represented by the Hill yield function with an associated flow rule, and failure is indicated when any component of the plastic natural-strain tensor exceeds its critical value. Example computations are included to demonstrate the model and its applicability to composites under ballistic impacts.
