Abstract:

This Coastal and Hydraulics Engineering Technical Note ERDC CHETN-IV-60 provides guidance on coupling the two-dimensional 2-D circulation model M2D with the steady spectral wave model STWAVE through the Surface-Water Modeling System SMS. Coupling of models is an efficient and accurate means of calculating wave-driven currents, setup and setdown, and wave-current interaction in nearshore regions, including tidal inlets. Procedures and options for coupling M2D and STWAVE within the SMS are described and an example application is provided.
