Abstract:

The Americans earned a logistical advantage over the British, leading to their success during the Northern Campaign of 1776. American logistics success denied the British any strategic advance over the campaign season, thus earning the Americans another year to re-organize and refit. The contemporary logistician can learn lessons from this campaign. The Americans logistical position in the Northern Theatre in 1776 gave them operational advantages that the British were unable to counter. The Americans were able to frame the problem, choose the ground, identify solutions, and arrive at their desired end state the successful defense of New York.
