The objective of this project is to develop high birefringence Delta n, large dielectric anisotropy Delta E, and low-loss polar nematic liquid crystal compounds and mixtures for infrared applications, especially in the MWIR spectral region. The performance goals are Delta n 0.2 at lambda 4m, Delta E 5 at 1 kHz, and absorption coefficient alpha 5cm.
