This thesis examines the Department of the Army s portion of the Department of Defenses DoD budget request from Fiscal Year FY 2001 through FY 2010. The examination used qualitative, quantitative, and mixed method analyses. Two secondary questions also were considered 1 When new priorities emerged, did the budget request respond 2 Is there a correlation between a change in priorities and a change in budget 3 What were the priorities set forth in the National Security Strategy, the National Defense Strategy, and the Quadrennial Defense Review 4 How much supplemental funding was appropriated to the Army and 5 How much did the Armys budget request change from FY 2001 to FY 2010 The thesis also examined the Armys budget requirements for the period being studied and attempted to identify any correlations between the executive branch and congressional priorities for the Department of the Army.
