The security situation in Africa is a wicked issue. If we consider the present cases of turmoil in Libya, Tunisia, Sudan, Mali, Cote d Ivoire, Nigeria, the countries of the Great Lakes, the two Congos, the Central African Republic, and Zimbabwe in Southern Africa, the threat is omnipresent and hinders the development of the continent. It is therefore important for Burkina Faso to build capacities in the view of preventing or dealing with coming internal crisis and to help quell conflicts on the continent or elsewhere through the United Nations Peacekeeping Operations channels. Peacekeeping missions require professionalism, good and sustainable equipment, physical and mental readiness. For these reasons, it is necessary to examine the issue by providing reflections and proposals for a better organization and engagement of Burkinabe Armed Forces to maintain peace at home and for a better engagement in Peace Support Operations abroad.
