Abstract:

This research follows from previous work that has demonstrated that suitable sorbent amendments to sediments can lead to contaminant sequestration and reduction of contaminant bioavailability for in-situ management of impacted sites. The primary objective of this research was to test a range of available biochars and especially formulated biochars that can reduce the bioavailability and leaching of toxic chemicals like PAHs, PCBs, DDTs, mercury and methylmercury in sediments.
