Abstract:

The earthquake and the tsunami that occurred in Japan on March 11, 2011 led to releases of radioactive materials from the Tokyo Electric Power Companys Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station into the environment. This report compares data, assumptions, exposure pathways, and estimation methods used in the two radiation dose assessments prepared by the World Health Organization and the United States Department of Defense. The range of doses estimated by the two groups are compared and found to be generally in agreement at the locations covered by both studies.
