Abstract:
The goal was to demonstrate a flexible actuation technology that would enable smart materials with both large stresses and strains. Using microchannels that would pump fluid by electroosmosis to deform flexible materials, we experimentally demonstrated devices that created large material deformations at high pressure, and whose performance matched theoretical predictions.
