This is the fifth study in the series of Environmental Security Technology Certification Program ESTCP demonstrations of classification technologies for Munitions Response MR. This demonstration is designed to investigate the evolving classification methodology at a site that is partially wooded with a mix of munitions types. The primary objective of this project is to demonstrate field use of a man portable discrimination system, the Man Portable Vector MPV sensor. The MPV electromagnetic induction EMI sensor was designed to extend advanced discrimination capabilities to sites with challenging surveying conditions and, thus allow for advanced discrimination to be applied at most human trafficable land locations at moderate cost. The system is deployed in conjunction with a portable local positioning system free from line-of-sight requirements to facilitate survey in treed areas, where traditional location systems like global positioning system GPS and laser e.g., dense forests and steep terrain can fail.
