Abstract:

The Forum was established to provide a structured opportunity for stakeholder discussion and scrutiny of critical and possibly contentious scientific and policy issues of shared concern related to research on and the prevention, detection, and management of infectious diseases and dangerous pathogens. Because of the unofficial nature of its deliberations coupled with the neutrality of the Institute of Medicine, the Forum remains uniquely positioned to stimulate original thinking about new as well as long-standing problems in these areas.
