Improving Large-Telescope Speckle Imaging via Aperture Partitioning

We describe a generalization of aperture masking interferometry that improves the speckle imaging performance of a telescope in the large Dr0 regime while making use of all collected photons. Our approach is to partition the aperture into annuli, form the bispectra of the focal plane images formed from each annulus, recombine them into a synthesized bispectrum, and use that to retrieve the object. This may be implemented using multiple cameras and special mirrors, or with a single camera and a suitable pupil phase mask.
