In this project, we investigated the potential of targeting the androgen receptor and the 5alpha-reductase simultaneously in prostate cancer prevention. We report that this combined androgen receptor blockade approach produced a synergistic effect on tumor growth inhibition by in vitro and in vivo. We have also identified that methylseleninic acid MSA activates FOXO1 and FOXO1 activation plays an important role in mediating apoptosis induction and androgen receptor suppression by MSA. In summary, the research support by this grant suggests a novel and effective approach for managing early stage prostate cancer and contributes to a better understanding of the anticancer effects of MSA.
