Abstract:

An analytic perturbation solution is developed for a single cell SQUID and for multi-cell rows with random cell sizes constrained by having a mirror symmetry about the center junction. The response of a single SQUID to an external RF signal is determined in terms of correlation functions between the phase of the inline effective junction and the circulating current. This yields an RF phase shift that can be calculated as a function of the circuit parameters and the signal frequency. Summing the phase shifted RF voltages of many random cell size SQUIDs in series yields the SQIF RF response.
