Abstract:

The intent of this paper is to prove that Hezbollahs overwhelming success as a global terrorist or Shia defense organization and subsequent political power in the Lebanese political system is attributed to its use of social services. The paper examines Lebanese history, the evolution of Hezbollah, Hezbollahs organizational structure, funding sources, and social service achievements to provide a systemic understanding of how the organization morphed from a resistance movement into a stateless government that leverages charity to meet the needs of the neglected, oppressed, and marginalized Lebanese Shia population to maintain popular support.
