Abstract:

Existing airworthiness standards require that all aspects of fatigue be considered in the design, development and maintenance of aircraft structures. To minimise costs and improve combat readiness requires accurate and efficient fatigue life evaluation. This report details the introduction of a strain-life algorithm known as FAMSH into the software tool suite known as CGAP developed and maintained at the DSTO. Along with improvements to the original FAMSH code this most recent development introduces a materials database and dynamic memory allocation. With other additional improvements the latest release of the CGAP environment seeks to improve the ease with which the engineer is able to accurately and reliably conduct fatigue life analysis. Contained within this report is an explanation of the strain-life theory in conjunction with a detailed description of its implementation in the CGAP GUI environment. Examples are provided to guide the user through its operation.
