Abstract:

Addressing todays threats and security challenges and supporting deployed forces and allies require new approaches to integrate and synchronize action, empower subordinates, and increase operational speed. Willingness to change is no longer optional as U.S. Strategic Command USSTRATCOM rethinks its approach to the challenges it faces. Redefining Global Deterrence Marshall McLuhan said, There is absolutely no inevitability as long as there is a willingness to contemplate what is happening.1 For the Department of Defense, what is happening today requires us to adapt to confront a broad spectrum of threats from near-peer nation-states to small bands of radical extremists bent on inflicting catastrophic damage.
