Abstract:

The U.S. Coast Guards Deployable Operations Group DOG was established in July 2007 to align all of the services deployable specialized forces under a single unified command. Creation of the DOG was an integral part of the Coast Guards modernization program - a major, ongoing effort to update its command structure, support systems, and business practices. According to Coast Guard officials, the DOG is intended to enhance operational effectiveness and interagency coordination in responding to a wide range of national emergencies and events, such as terrorist threats or natural disasters.
