Abstract:

This program investigated helicopter operational field issues encountered by the U.S. Army Aviation Engineering Directorate. All of these field issues involved contaminated fuel problems that created operationalflight safety issues. Two of the incidents involved plugged fuel filters that were directly related to super absorbent polymer SAP migration from water absorbent monitors. The third incident also involved a plugged fuel filter, but this debris was from an unknown, external source.
