Abstract:

The Air Force should consider looking further into the future when making personnel decisions. To manage personnel end-strength more effectively, the Air Force should use the designated units in place to the utmost of their capabilities. These units are in place to work with the Air Force Personnel Center to determine the total number of service personnel required per career field and in the Air Force in general. End-strength should be determined after an in-depth analysis and should be matched with the number of missions planned and the expectations of the Air Force with the Secretary of Defense. By having cut so much of the already trained force, and now presenting the plan to grow by 10,000 more, the Air Force has lowered morale and squandered an obscene amount of training funds.
