Seeking to expand the operational capabilities of its amphibious platforms, the United States Navy has suggested the addition of a dual purpose littoralriverine patrol craft capable of significant personnel and cargo insertion. Operations from amphibious platforms are typically limited to air cushion LCAC and displacement landing craft LCU. These support craft have significant personnel lift capabilities, but they are limited to operation from within the well decks of the amphibious ships. Additionally, neither craft possesses the necessary characteristics for patrol and interdiction missions. This paper suggests a preliminary design for a Very Versatile Vessel VVV capable of both davit and well deck deployment, with the ability to support amphibious and riverine operation. This report will address the operational and technical aspects of this design requiring additional investigation.
