Abstract:

Electrospinning displays its high efficiency for fabricating a two-dimensional mat consisting of fine fibers. By the use of electrospinning, for example, a two-dimensional filter with superior functionality can be easily fabricated. However, individually fabricating fibers is a difficult task for the electrospinning technology, since electro-spun fibers are inevitably entangled and stick together during its formation process. Extraction of single fiber is quite difficult task, and establishing a single fiber extraction technique is a challenging theme in this field. This work introduces a quite simple technique of separately fabricating electro-spun short fibers. This technique simply employs a paper mesh, which is to be placed between the needle tip and counter electrode of electrospinning unit. Furthermore, usability of this technique was examined by try fabricating fine fibers consisting of different kinds of polymers.
