Abstract:
The Army EQT Ordnance Environmental Program OEP is dedicated to funding replacements for substances causing environmental andor occupational risks to health. As part of this program, each work unit is evaluated for environmental and occupational health impacts. The primary purpose of this work unit PYRO 06-08 is to eliminate potassium perchlorate from the flash composition of the formulations for the M118 and M119 simulators. These simulators are used in training to produce illumination or create a high-pitched whistle. The proposed formulations have successfully removed perchlorate from the mixtures, resulting in much more environmentally-friendly devices. The current formulations for the M118 and M119 simulators should continue in development.
