Abstract:
The Jet Propulsion Laboratory JPL supplies, maintains, and operates the NASA Deep Space Network for ground tracking of outer space probes. There are three major complexes which are located near Los Angeles, California Canberra, Australia and Madrid, Spain to provide continuous coverage of the desired spacecraft. This paper will describe the Frequency and Timing equipment utilized at the three complexes, and the methods of time synchronization and frequency synchronization between the three complexes and the National Institute of Standards and Technology NIST. Diagrams and specifications of todays system and anticipated future requirements will also be presented.
