Testing susceptibility of stainless steels to abiotic sulfide derivitization 10 M in a chloridecontaining medium under laboratory conditions was directly related to the types and concentrations of alloying elements. Derivatization decreased in the following order 430 304L 316L 904L. Laboratory results compared favorably with electrochemical model predictions. Results of the testing and modeling will be used to refine models for the impact of microbiologically produced sulfides on stainless steels.
