Cold weather is a significant recurring threat to the health and operational effectiveness of military forces. In the US Army, equipment, supplies, policies, and practices have been developed to protect soldiers during operations in cold environments. Recent surveillance reports documented that diagnoses of cold weather injuries CWIs among US Army soldiers increased each cold weather season from 1997 through 2000. This report extends CWI surveillance by including data from the 2000-2001 cold season.
