Abstract:

The goal was to develop effective computer-based support for collaborative intelligence analysis, with a particular focus on facilitating tacit collaboration. Our approach can be characterized as a DevelopUnderstandImprove cycle, where the Understand phase is the foundation of our work. We used statistical techniques, such as Latent Dirichlet Allocation Relational Topic Models-to uncover hidden latent patterns and relationships that can be exploited to assess the analytic value of information objects and analyst-to-analyst connections. Two conceptual themes that are within the context of our overall DevelopUnderstand Improve cycle Blending the Personal and the Collective and Infer, Rather than Enforce, Structure, drive and are driven by our technology developments and the experimentation we undertake with our technology.
