Abstract:
Although there are many approaches to clean up wastewater and soil contaminated with heavy metals and other industrial pollutants, remediation with chelating polymers is one of the most versatile and inexpensive methods. The polymer ligands efficiency and selectivity for particular metal ions are two important parameters that can be controlled by ligand type, ligand density, solubility of the polymer, as well as operating pH. An overview of remediating polymers and ligands currently in use as well as an outlook for the future directions of chelating polymer design are presented in this work.
