This effort helped to support the establishment of a Joint Clinical Research Center JCRC in Thailand in a partnership with the Royal Thai Army RTA, the Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Science AFRIMS, and the University of Hawaii. The Center will provide a vehicle for the study of infectious diseases including bioterrorism with full patient, laboratory and animal facilities. There remains significant difficulty in providing timely research when the majority of affected populations for diseases live on foreign soil. This center is fully integrated with broadband medical networking and clinical informatics assuring international communication and localregional access to affected patient populations. UH provided research collaboration and administrative personnel to the Center. In an additional proposal modification, UH provided advanced simulation training to the annual Asia Pacific Military Medical Conference held in Vietnam in an effort to develop stronger associations throughout Southeast Asia for expanding infectious disease research interests in the region.
