Susan M. Livingstone served as Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Logistics and Environment from 1989 to 1993, where she was instrumental in establishing the four pillars Compliance, Conservation, Pollution Prevention, and Restoration of the Armys very successful environmental program. She was actively engaged in cleanup of formerly used defense sites and installations slated for closure. She is a recipient of the Secretary of Defense Award for Outstanding Public Service, as well as the highest civilian awards from the Departments of the Army and Navy, the National Reconnaissance Office, and the Veterans Administration.
