2D Electrostatic Potential Solver for Hall Thruster Simulation

This paper presents the formulation of a 2D axisymmetric electrostatic potential solver 2DFV for Hall thruster simulation. It is based on a finite volume discretization of a current conservation equation where the electron current density is described by a Generalized Ohms law description. Comparison of 2DFV to an existing 1D axisymmetric electrostatic potential solver is provided and investigation is performed into anomalous mobility corrections and Hall current calculation. Details of an extension of this formulation to include j- x B- plasma turbulence terms are also provided.
