Here we are expanding our existing program in which we are investigating the creation, control and transport of spin-polarized populations and currents. In addition to extending our previous switch operation to room temperature, this expansion is for the specific purpose of investigating spin-based switching in a new class of materials called resonant photonic bandgap RPBG nanostrucures. The proposed expansion will provide for i the growth of these nanostructures, ii switch development, iii the fundamental studies of promising switching processes, and iv the necessary theoretical support in the same package.
