Abstract:

Med-e-Tel, is an international conference and exhibition, taking place annually in Luxembourg and organized by Luxexpo. Med-e-Tel 2006 was held on April 5-7, 2006 and attracted 400 participants from 48 countries. Participants included hospital administrators and department heads, association executives, industry health, IT, telecom representatives, academia, researchers, local and international government representatives, health insurers, homecare services. The Med-e-Tel 2006 conference program covered over 130 presentations on topics such as homecare and health management, healthcare challenges, tele-education, eHealth in developing countries, telecardiology, and more. The Med-e-Tel 2006 exhibition showcased products and technologies in the areas of medication compliance, home telehealth and vital sign monitoring, clinical software, electronic medical records, results of telemedicine and ehealth projects, as well as information about some 40 publications, journals, reports and online information services in the fields of telemedicine and ehealth. The Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center TATRC presented a highly rated conference session on Global Healthcare Challenges and Opportunities The Role of Advanced Technology, covering the implementation of broadband networks, mobile solutions, operational standards, environmental sensors and telemedicine technologies. Other organizations supporting and participating at Med-e-Tel 2006 included International Society for Telemedicine eHealth ISfTeH, World Health Organization WHO, International Telecommunication Union ITU, United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs UNOOSA, Information Society Directorate-General of the European Commission, Luxembourg Ministry of Health, European Health Telematics Association EHTEL, uHealth initiative part of IEEE Healthcom.
