Abstract:

The purpose of this work is to develop a new class of nonlinear 1D photonic crystal polymers for eye and sensor protection. We have fabricated, characterized and patented the first nonlinear nano-layered materials. These materials contain lead phthalocyaninea dye with nonlinear optical properties, in alternate layers as indicated in Figure 1.Recently we have made a significant breakthrough in nanolayer processing. A much higher level of layer uniformity was achieved vastly expanding the opportunities for developing 1D photonic crystals containing dyes or nanoparticles in alternate layers. This opens up enormous opportunities for the development of non-linear nanolayered materials which enable a vast arena of applications including ultra-fast switching and laser protection.
