Abstract:

Piezoelectric transformers PTs have been successfully applied as step-up transformers for backlighting Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps CCFL used in the liquid crystal displays of notebook computers. In the last decade, the interest in PTs has evolved to a second group of applications. Worldwide companies are now investigating the use of PTs for power applications, including battery chargers, fluorescent ballasts, DCDC converters and others. A third group of applications is now proposed by Face Electronics for use in the new generation of communication satellite and other commercial applications. This presentation introduces the ongoing research on space applications for PTs.
